Japanese Woodblock Art Print by Ando Utagawa Hiroshige Fishing Boats on a Lake

£6.75

This Hiroshige paintings or should I say Japanese print art named Fishing Boats on a Lake shows the simplicity and richness of what color can add to? a Japanese block print. The variation in the water and the gradient in the sky give a realism to the scene. The shapes of the birds, boats, clouds, and mountains all balance each other perfectly and symmetrically.  All of these elements result in a scene of quiet yet intense beauty.

About The Artist Utagawa Hiroshige

  • Utagawa Hiroshige born Ando Hiroshige (1797  12 October 1858), was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, considered the last great master of that tradition.
  • Hiroshige is best known for his horizontal-format landscape series. His Japanese prints make subtle use of colour, often printed with multiple impressions in the same area and with extensive use of bokashi (color gradation), both of which were rather labour-intensive techniques.
